Dear Classical Wisdom Reader, With Valentine’s Day taking place back on Tuesday, we’ve had a bit of a love themed week here at Classical Wisdom! And why not? The historical Saint Valentine was a figure of the Classical world, after all: he lived under the Roman Empire as a Christian clergyman. Much of his life remains a bit of a mystery, but it is believed he secretly married Christian couples during the Roman persecution of Christians, and was ultimately executed by the Romans himself. It’s strange to think. Valentine’s Day is now celebrated every year, and the Roman Empire that executed him, so powerful in its day, is now long gone. If you’re interested in (or worried about!) that type of collapse (what we sometimes here call ‘the end of empires’), be sure to check out our new podcast with Spencer Klavan, where he discusses his new book ‘How to Save the West: Ancient Wisdom for 5 Modern Crises’. You can listen to it HERE. And of course, there is more to love than just romantic love. This week’s Classical Wisdom Kids takes a look at the importance of friendship, and what we can learn about it from the ancient world. Check it out below, alongside the rest of this week’s resources…. Classical Wisdom is a reader-supported publication.
