This extended Musical Moment features Le Grand Tango by Astor Piazzolla, who reinvigorated Argentinian tango by blending it with elements of jazz, classical and electronic music. He wrote this one-movement work in 1982 for the legendary cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. Jaemin Han and Jonathan Ware capture its changing moods – from the emphatic rhythms of the opening minutes to the wit and energy of the conclusion, via the lyricism of the central section.
