(Ananda K Coomaraswamy)

Chopin: Étude in C minor, Op. 10, No. 12 "Revolutionary" | Evgeny Kissin (piano)

In this video, the energetic work is performed by pianist Evgeny Kissin during a 2010 gala concert in the Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall to mark the composer's 200th birthday.

The circumstances surrounding its composition are especially significant. In November 1830, while Chopin (1810–1849) was traveling in Vienna, the November Uprising against Russian rule began in his native Poland. Chopin's friend Tytus Woyciechowski returned to Poland to join the fighting, while Chopin remained abroad. In September 1831, while travelling through Stuttgart on his way to Paris, Chopin learned that Russian forces had captured Warsaw and that the uprising had collapsed. His diary from this period expresses intense frustration and despair at being far from home and unable to take part. As a result, many have said this time in Stuttgart was the inspiration for this C-minor Étude.

Since its composition, the piece has often been referred to as the "Revolutionary Étude," although Chopin himself didn't give it that name. Scholars can't say for certain that he intended the music to depict the uprising, but considering what was happening in Poland and his emotional state at the time, it seems more than likely. What is certain is that the Étude reflects a major turning point in Chopin’s life. Not long afterwards, he settled in Paris, where he lived until his death.

Étude in C minor, Op. 10, No. 12 belongs to his first set of Études, Op. 10, which transformed the traditional piano study from a technical exercise into a full concert work. The piece is driven by a furious left-hand pattern of rushing sixteenth notes beneath a powerful, dramatic melody in the right hand. The contrast between the relentless motion and the forceful chords gives the music a feeling of urgency and struggle.

Pianist Evgeny Kissin is widely known for his interpretations of Chopin’s music, which has been an important part of his repertoire throughout his career. At 12, he performed both of Chopin’s piano concertos in Moscow, a performance that helped establish his international reputation. He has also remained closely associated with the Romantic repertoire, continuing to perform it worldwide.

Author: Sarah Hucal

© 2010 Accentus Music

Find more concerts here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_SdnzPd3eBV5A14dyRWy1KSkwcG8LEey

in our playlist featuring pieces for solo piano: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_SdnzPd3eBV8VQOtGGTUYSryvB_k8Wl-

and in our playlist with piano concertos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_SdnzPd3eBU7k2TJgrgNCc9aygnNkaGZ

Subscribe to DW Classical Music: https://www.youtube.com/dwclassicalmusic

#chopin #solopiano #chopinetude

- Enlace a artículo -

Más info en https://ift.tt/Esv2C8i / Tfno. & WA 607725547 Centro MENADEL (Frasco Martín) Psicología Clínica y Tradicional en Mijas. #Menadel #Psicología #Clínica #Tradicional #MijasPueblo

*No suscribimos necesariamente las opiniones o artículos aquí compartidos.
