Dear Classical Wisdom Reader,
The rain is battering loudly against my window and the wind is howling outside…
You wouldn’t think it was an August afternoon!
Yet, truth be told, it is often a bit like this here at this time of year: the transition from one season to another, as summer reaches its end and the autumn begins.
Of course, the transition between seasons was especially important to the ancient Greeks.
It was commemorated by them in the tale of Hades, Persephone, and her mother, Demeter, most famously told as the Homeric Hymn to Demeter.
It remains one of the most enduring and beloved stories in all of Greek mythology, and has inspired countless artists and writers over the centuries.
We’ll be looking at this poem in-depth at our upcoming LIVE webinar event dedicated to the Homeric Hymn to Demeter.
Anya will be joined by Diane Rayor, Professor Emerita of Classics at Grand Valley State University/Michigan, to discuss this epic poem and its preservation throughout history.
That’s on August 28th at Noon EST. You can register to attend HERE!
Can’t make it live? Simply register and you will be sent a recording of the event afterwards.
PLUS: Those who register will receive Diane's beautiful translation of the poem itself. Please check your confirmation email once you sign up for the PDF of the Homeric Hymn to Demeter.
