Dear Classical Wisdom Reader,
What makes something a once-in-a-lifetime experience?
Is it the rarity? The fact that if you don’t seize it now, it simply disappears?
Is it the electricity of standing in places where history, myth, and meaning collide?
Or is it that unmistakable feeling that this is one of those moments you’ll look back on and say, I’m so glad I said yes?
Sometimes, a journey answers all three questions at once.
Indeed, that is exactly what The Sea of Homer Voyage offers.
This July, Classical Wisdom is embarking on a voyage that is as intellectually thrilling as it is emotionally stirring...a journey through Greece, the Greek Islands, and Turkey that follows the contours of Homer’s world itself.
Not as a distant myth. Not as a textbook subject. But as a living landscape you move through, step by step, shore by shore.
This is not a checklist tour of famous sites. It is a carefully woven journey beyond the expected, into places that most travelers never reach, and into ideas that continue to shape who we are.
Yes, we stand on the Acropolis and walk through ancient Athens. But we also venture to:
Mycenae, passing through the Lion Gate into the world of Agamemnon.
We experience the extraordinary acoustics of Epidaurus, a healing sanctuary as much as a theater.
We sail to Patmos, rugged and luminous, where Revelation was written, an island of stillness and spiritual intensity.
We explore Priene, a beautifully preserved ancient city set against forested hills, rarely visited yet unforgettable.
And we walk the sacred island of Delos, birthplace of Apollo, an open-air archaeological museum that feels suspended in time.
Threading all of this together is Emily Wilson, award-winning translator of the Odyssey and Iliad, and one of the most compelling classical voices of our age.
To hear Homer through her lens, while standing in Homer’s world, is exhilarating. This is scholarship not as abstraction, but as lived experience, rich, human, and profoundly moving.
Between these remarkable places, the journey itself becomes a pleasure.
We sail aboard the brand-new, all-suite EXPLORA II, a ship designed for spaciousness, elegance, and ease. With private ocean-front terraces, exceptional cuisine, and thoughtfully designed wellness spaces, the ship allows for something rare: time to reflect, to converse, to absorb what you’ve seen and heard.
And there is something else that makes this moment especially meaningful.
Shortly after our return, a major blockbuster film adaptation of The Odyssey will usher Homer back into popular culture in a big, loud way. This journey offers the opposite: a chance to encounter the epic before the noise, quietly and deeply, in the landscapes that inspired it, guided by the very scholar whose translation will shape how millions understand the story.
Now, an important note...
There are only 9 cabins remaining. This offer opens to another group tomorrow, and experience has taught me that places at this stage tend to disappear quickly. When those cabins are gone, this experience...this precise convergence of scholar, ship, and setting...is gone with them.
Some trips are enjoyable.
Some are memorable.
A very rare few change how you see the world.
