(Ananda K Coomaraswamy)

This video was taken during a unique Chopin-inspired piano recital given by conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim at the Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall in 2010.

When it comes to the epitome of Romantic-era piano nocturnes, Frédéric Chopin's Nocturne in D-flat major, Op. 27, No. 2 just might be it. Composed during the mid-1830s and published as part of the Op. 27 set of two works, the piece shows the composer's ability to transform the nocturne from a simple lyrical genre into a highly sophisticated form of musical expression. Throughout the two-strophe work, Chopin (1810-1849), continuously reshapes his themes through subtle ornamentation and changing textures.

Scholars have often pointed out that the piece seems to imitate the human voice in the main melodic line. Chopin was a noted fan of bel canto opera, and this influence can be heard in the long, flowing melody. The accompaniment remains delicate and supportive, allowing the principal melody to unfold freely. Frequent embellishments, chromatic harmonies and dynamic contrasts add to the work's emotional character.

The piece also had a special influence on Chopin's contemporary, Franz Liszt. Scholars have often observed similarities between this work and Liszt's Consolation No. 3 in D-flat major — they share the same key, a similar melodic "singing" style and elaborate ornamentation. Since Liszt composed the Consolations shortly after Chopin's death in 1849, it's thought that the work was meant as a tribute to late composer's musical legacy. Several of Liszt's later piano works reveal the extent to which he used elements of Chopin's lyrical and poetic approach to piano writing.

Argentinian-Israeli composer and conductor Daniel Barenboim started his career as a child piano prodigy and later went on to conduct some of the world's finest ensembles. He served as the music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and later the Berlin State Opera. Over the years, Barenboim has frequently performed as a concert pianist, often paying tribute to the Romantic composers such as Chopin who have long served as inspiration. In 1982, he released an album of Chopin's complete Nocturnes on Deutsche Grammophon.

Author: Sarah Hucal

© 2010 Accentus Music

Discover more concert recordings here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_SdnzPd3eBV5A14dyRWy1KSkwcG8LEey

Explore our collection of works for solo piano: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_SdnzPd3eBV8VQOtGGTUYSryvB_k8Wl-

And enjoy more music from the Romantic era in this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_SdnzPd3eBUCHNKKxIIM88sntDk1TVih

Subscribe to DW Classical Music: https://www.youtube.com/dwclassicalmusic

#chopin #solopiano #barenboim

- Enlace a artículo -

Más info en https://ift.tt/AymQV9H / Tfno. & WA 607725547 Centro MENADEL (Frasco Martín) Psicología Clínica y Tradicional en Mijas. #Menadel #Psicología #Clínica #Tradicional #MijasPueblo

*No suscribimos necesariamente las opiniones o artículos aquí compartidos.
